The Diary of a Spy
This lesson plan is designed to enhance the study of the Revolutionary War in a middle school social studies class. Students will need computer and internet access and a copy of the first chapter of The Dark Game: True Spy Stories by Paul B. Janeczko (to be read before this lesson). This lesson will take three 45-50 minute class periods and is designed to be co-taught with a classroom teacher and a librarian.

Students will…
  • Show their understanding of the chapter and of colonial American culture by creating a diary of an historical figure
  • Locate additional information on their chosen historical figure using online and print resources
  • Evaluate the credibility and suitability of sources
  • Document their research using notes and an MLA formatted bibliography page
